Muse Design Silver Award Win: Illustration

The Mega Creative Company partnered with Monkton to define their illustration style and create a vast library of 60+ individual assets and 35+ full scenes. Illustration within the Monkton brand took a 360º approach—it’s used as a focal point within print and digital collateral, hero and inline images for their blog, social media, infographics, and giveaway swag items like uniquely shaped die-cut stickers. Illustrations also transitioned to other team members to virtually bring to life through motion design.

Bold, bright use of primary and secondary brand colors drove the creation of the illustrations with a sense of refined restraint. Colors coined as Petal Pink, Deep Space Blue, Brilliant Blue, Coral, and Sunray Yellow converge to create a harmonious balance, illuminating the brand's most important topics. Emphasis is placed on broader gestural forms and larger blocks of illustrative information to paint these pictures. This pure-form approach is intentional, acting as contrast to Monkton’s highly technical, complex topics—in the realm of cloud mobility, Edge Computing, and mobile app development—not often lending themselves well to photography. Speaking to their target audience of government and medical personnel can also make it challenging to get authentic and appropriate photos of important subject matter and of the people they serve. Illustration presents an excellent alternative for precisely setting the scene.

When relying heavily on color and form as key design principles, it’s even more crucial to embrace diversity. Though use of color bound to the carefully selected branded palette, consideration for hair color, hair styles, skin color, attire, and gender inclusivity were taken into account within the parameters of Monkton’s illustrative world.
